As a relatively small company without a dedicated HR Manager, they partner with HR People Support (HRPS) for expert on-going help and guidance. Workforce issues arise from time to time in all organisations, and Colour Connection takes great care to deal with HR challenges in a compassionate and professional manner. Says Karen Cook, General Manager at Colour Connection Ltd:
“Employment law, policies, and procedures are forever evolving – and it’s a challenge to ensure everything is up to date and correct. It’s why we work with HRPS as our ‘go to’ experts in all things HR. From the smallest query to more difficult situations they are readily available to help us.”
Keeping the company handbook up to date, and ensuring the correct internal documentation and procedures are in place is the bedrock of the support provided by HRPS, and when wider issues arise, they are on hand to support Colour Connection through the minefield of employment law.
Issues with absence management and employee conduct are two areas that have been dealt with in recent times, and satisfactory conclusions have been achieved in both areas.Continues Karen:
“When absence from work becomes an issue, it has to be handled carefully as there are many reasons why an employee may be struggling with attendance. HRPS helped us identify and manage those issues – introducing working practices that improve employee attendance whilst educating the workforce about their responsibilities and the consequences of continued absence. They’ve also helped us with a redundancy situation when changing operational technology meant that a job role was no longer available. Their compassionate and supportive process ensured a positive, mutually acceptable outcome for all. We’ve also worked collaboratively with HRPS to resolve an issue where behaviour was threatening to damage our reputation in the local community. They guided us through a disciplinary procedure that required investigation, evidence gathering, meetings, and documented communication – all of which progressed to satisfactory conclusion.”
Colour Connection Ltd work with HRPS on a retained contractual basis that includes an agreed number of hours each month. If more time is required, the monthly charge is simply adjusted to reflect the additional support. Concludes Karen:
“Each and every HR situation is different, and knowing we have expert HR support on hand is a very reassuring. They are very responsive to our requests and their support is excellent. Our documentation and procedures are all up to date and legally compliant, removing a massive burden from the leadership team – and enabling us to focus on our core business.”
